New Year, Fresh Start! By June Stephenson, Community Associates Manager.
It’s an unbelievable 48 years this week since I started my nurse training! I’m still doing a job I love and hoping that my individual efforts make a difference to all those people in the sector who need our skills and support.
As we embark on a New Year it’s easy to feel despondent when the news is full of negativity surrounding the sector. If you are like me and have had a long career in H & S.Care you will have seem many changes come and go, the wheel being re-invented and too many political broken promises.
My NY resolution is to make every day a fresh start, small steps, 1 day at a time, look for the positive and avoid the pit of paralysis and the mistaken belief that as an individual I can’t change anything. I’ll do my best to dodge the circle of cynicism and celebrate and promote what we all do well. These are the shared ideals of the YCA and you can support them too, everyday in your own work and in your own way, together our combined efforts and small steps will help us to make big strides and celebrate not only our careers but the positive difference we can make.

Ps. No social media in those days to keep in touch by but I hope that the other girls in the photo are well, from the left Anne, Shirley, Me, and unknown. St. James’s University Hospital, Leeds.
